This accession consists of Chairman's records pertaining to research, special projects, and collections management in the Department of Vertebrate Zoology. Materials include incoming and outgoing correspondence with Smithsonian administration, departmental staff, and outside museums and organizations; research proposals; divisional memoranda concerning funding requests and collection policies; divisional reports; and curatorial meeting agendas, memoranda, and minutes. Most of the records were created and maintained by Richard W. Thorington during his tenure as Department Chairman (1987-present). Some materials date back to past Chairmen, including George R. Zug (1978-1983), and W. Ronald Heyer (1984-1987).

Descriptive Entry

This accession consists of Chairman's records pertaining to research, special projects, and collections management in the Department of Vertebrate Zoology. Materials include incoming and outgoing correspondence with Smithsonian administration, departmental staff, and outside museums and organizations; research proposals; divisional memoranda concerning funding requests and collection policies; divisional reports; and curatorial meeting agendas, memoranda, and minutes.
