The Visiting Committee of the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery was created in 1986 when Robert McCormick Adams, Secretary of the Smithsonian, appointed its first members. The Committee's function is to assist the Secretary and the Director of the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery by disseminating knowledge of the museum to the members' worlds, to convey ideas and views to the museum, and to act as a medium of communication.
