- The Chief Curator was created in 1998 to supervise the curatorial areas of the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. Vidya Dehejia was the first Chief Curator, serving 1998-2002. In 2004, Massumeh Farhad was appointed Chief Curator, after having started at the museum in 1995 as associate curator of Islamic Art. The Chief Curator reports to the Deputy Director.
