- Smithsonian Year 1985-1995
- Ross B. Simons was Program Manager in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Science, and after 1986 in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research from 1976-1987. In 1988 he became Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research. In 1992, with the renaming of the office, Simons became Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Sciences, and served in that capacity until 1994 when an administrative reorganization ended that position. Simons went on the become Acting Assistant Provost for the Sciences in 1995.
