Smithsonian Annals, 1987-1994
A Deputy Assistant Secretary for Media Affairs was established within the office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Service in 1988. In 1990 the position moved under the Assistant Secretary for External Affairs, titled Deputy Assistant Secretary for Media. The Deputy Assistant Secretary dealt largely with media-related subjects, espcially the visual media. Robert A. Dierker served in the position from 1988-1990 when the position was abolished.
