Summary

Consists of records documenting the activities of the Director and Assistant Director, as well as various aspects of routine operations performed by the zoo staff during the tenures of Frank Baker, Superintendent, 1893-1916; Ned Hollister, Superintendent, 1916-1924; Alexander Wetmore, Superintendent, 1924-1925; William M. Mann, Superintendent, 1925-1926, and Director, 1926-1956. Materials include diaries, ledgers, memoranda, and memo books containing selected listings of National Zoological Park events; notices of appointments and important visitors; records of staff attendance; daily weather reports; and information on animal accessions and removals, construction and grounds improvement, and food purchases.
