• A predecessor of the Smithsonian Associates, the Smithsonian National Associates Program, began to offer travel, both domestic and international, to members of the Associates in 1972. These trips were intended to provide educational opportunities in a wide variety of scientific, historical, and artistic fields, and have grown steadily in scope since their inception.
• From 1972 to 1981 Jacqueline Austin and Barbara Tuceling were Program managers, Austin for domestic travel and Tuceling for foreign travel. Prudence Clendening began planning the domestic travel tours in 1982 while Tuceling continued with the foreign ones. In 1994 Tuceling became Deputy Director of the Associates. Amy Kotkin served as Project Manager for Study Tours and Seminars, 1997- .
