- The Exhibitions Office is responsible for the design, preparation, installation, and maintenance of both changing and permanent exhibition galleries, and for the aesthetic development of all other public and non-public areas of the American Art and Portrait Gallery Building.
- Harry Lowe became the first Curator of Exhibits in 1964. In 1970 the title was changed to the Office of Exhibition and Design, and in 1973 David B. Keeler became its Chief, serving until 1985. He was succeeded by Val Lewton, 1986-1995, and John R. Zelenik, 1996- . The Office was renamed Office of Design and Production in 1983 and Exhibitions Office in 2002.
