Summary

Consists of records documenting the projects overseen by Richard Hubbard Howland, Special Assistant the Secretary, 1968-1985. Records also feature his extensive dealings with various professional societies and associations as well as special projects. Organizations and projects of interest of interest include the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation; the American Council of Learned Societies; the Belmont Conference Center; and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, reports, and background information. Records created before 1968 were created by Howland in his capacity as Chairman of the Department of Civil History, Museum of History and Technology.
