Summary

Consists of correspondence between curators and administrators of the United States National Museum and the Smithsonian and with outside museums, manufacturers, professional societies, universities, government agencies, and indiviiduals documenting the activities of the Department of Arts and Industries, later named the Division of Engineering. Some correspondence also documents the activities of the Division of Mineral Technology.
