  • The Division of Armed Forces History was created in 1984 by the merger of the Departments of Military History and Naval History. After 1994, the Division became a part of the Department of the History of Technology. In 2005 the Division became known as the Division of Military History and Diplomacy and then in 2010 it was once again known as the Division of Armed Forces History. In 2019, the division was merged with the Division of Political History to form the Division of Political and Military History. Curators and historians in the department include Philip K. Lundeberg, formerly of Naval History, 1984-1990; Harold D. Langley, formerly of Naval History, 1984-1994; Donald E. Kloster, formerly of Military History, 1984-1994; Edward Clinton Ezell, formerly of Military History, 1984-1994; James S. Hutchins, 1984-1994; Jennifer Locke Jones, 2005-2019; Kathleen Golden, 2005- ; Barton C. Hacker, 2000-2018; David D. Miller, 2005- ; Margaret Vining, 2005-2018; Frank A. Blazich, Jr., 2017- ; and Miranda Summers Lowe, 2019- .
