Consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence relating to all aspects of the Division of Mollusks' work. The correspondence documents the history of malacology during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, professional activities of the Division staff, the developmentof the Smithsonian collection of mollusks, divisional administration, the research of divisional staff members, and relations between the Division and United States government agencies. Curators represented in these materials include William Healy Dall, Honorary Curator 1880-1927; Paul Bartsch, Aid, Assistant Curator, and Curator, 1896-1946; Harald Alfred Rehder, Senior Scientific Aid, Assistant Curator, Associate Curator, Curator, and Senior Zoologist, 1932-1980; Robert Edwards Carter Stearns, Assistant Curator and Associate in Zoology, 1884-1909; Charles Torrey Simpson, Aid, 1889-1902; William Blanchard Marshall, Aid and Assistant Curator, 1895-1896, 1903-1934; Horace Gardiner Richards, Assistant Curator,1932; Joseph Paul Eldred Morrison, Senior Scientific Aid, Assistant Curator, and Associate Curator, 1934-1974; and R.
