Consists of record books documenting specimens distributed by the Smithsonian to individuals and institutions throughout the world, including schools, museums, public institutions, and individual scientists, and correspondence and specimen listings supplementing the record books. Registrars during this time period included Stephen C. Brown, Registrar, 1880-1919; and Herbert S. Bryant, Chief of the Division of Correspondence and Documents, 1918-1948.
