Summary

Consists of records documenting departmental business of the Department of Biology under Head Curators Frederick William True, 1897-1911; and Leonhard Stejneger, 1911-1943. Materials include incoming and outgoing correspondence. Correspondents include museum officials, divisional staff members, naturalists, and collectors and concerns the identification, exchange, and distribution of specimens; museum administration; collecting work; museum publications; and general requests for information. Copies of annual reports of the Department are also included within some of the correspondence.
