Summary:

This accession consists of records that document the work of Under Secretary Constance Berry Newman. They pertain to the activities of various museums, bureaus, and other major offices within the Institution and their relations with outside organizations. The records concern such issues as the Japan Project; the Latino Task Force; the Latino Working Committee; America's Endeavors; Asian American Project; the Asian American Indexing Project; African Voices project; Secretary I. Michael Heyman's file memorandum about his conversation with Nancy Sinatra Lambert concerning Frank Sinatra's potential gift to the Smithsonian Institution; and the Smithsonian 2000 Commission on the future of the Institution. There is also considerable correspondence on the "Enola Gay" exhibition. Materials consist of correspondence, reports, news clippings, brochures, and published volumes.

Descriptive Entry

This accession consists of records that document the work of the Under Secretary, Constance Berry Newman, during the calendar years 1991 through 1995. The records pertain to the activities of various museums, bureaus and other major offices within the Smithsonian Institution and other outside organizations.

There are correspondence and reports concerning such issues as Japan Project, Latino Task Force, Latino Working Committee, Americas Endeavors, Asian American Project, Asian American Indexing Project, Secretary I. Michael Heyman's file memo concerning his conversation with Nancy Sinatra Lambert about the potential for Frank Sinatra's gift to the Smithsonian, African Voices project, and Smithsonian 2000 Commission on the future of the Institution and Regents reports. There is also substantial correspondence on the Enola Gay exhibition, including reviews of the exhibition, as well as brochures and published monographs on the United States Air Force missions over Japan and the Pacific corridor during World War II.
