Summary:

This accession consists primarily of records that document the concept, design, and installation of the Environmental Awareness Program's (EAP) traveling exhibition "Ocean Planet," which opened at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) on April 22, 1995. In 1996 the exhibition traveled to other sites. The records consist of annotated drafts and scripts; advertisements and articles from publications concerning the exhibition; design contracts; exhibition blueprints and illustrations; budgetary files; correspondence; and fundraising information. Also included in this accession are administrative records documenting other EAP activities, and dating back to when EAP was named the Office of Environmental Awareness. These files pertain to minutes of meetings, environmental education programs, "Garbage!" exhibition workshops, "Earth Day" planning, and EAP publicity.

Descriptive Entry

This accession consists primarily of records that document the concept, design, and installation of the Environmental Awareness Program's (EAP) traveling exhibition Ocean Planet, which opened at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) on April 22, 1995. The exhibit, which is meant to heighten the public's awareness of conservation issues facing the oceans of the world, ended at NMNH on April 30, 1996 and then went on tour to different locations around the country. The records consist of annotated drafts and scripts; advertisements and articles from publications concerning the exhibition; design contracts; exhibition blueprints and illustrations; budgetary files; correspondence; and fundraising information.

Also included in this accession are administrative records documenting other EAP activities, and dating back to when EAP was named the Office of Environmental Awareness. These files pertain to minutes of meetings, environmental education programs, Garbage! exhibition workshops, "Earth Day" planning, and EAP publicity.
