Historical Note
Philip W. Wolle (1893-1969), a farmer from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, had an avocational interest in the study of algae. His paternal grandfather was the famous algologist, Rev. Francis Wolle.
Descriptive Entry
These papers consist mostly of materials documenting Wolle's studies on algae. Included is a series of notebooks containing observations and drawings from his research, as well as information on his family; correspondence with Paul S. Conger, Ruth Patrick, Francis Drouet, and other algologists concerning a wide range of research topics; photographs of Wolle, his family, and his farm in Princess Anne, Maryland; a small amount of correspondence of his grandfather, Rev. Francis Wolle, written between 1883 and 1888; and biographical information on Wolle compiled by Conger.
