These papers consist of Sailer's professional correspondence with colleagues about entomological and taxonomic matters, determinations, and a small quantity of research notes. Also included in these files are letters from some of Sailer's associates and successors, especially Peter Dunning Ashlock, Harry Gardner Barber, and Richard C. Froeschner.

Historical Note

Reece Ivan Sailer (1915- ) attended the University of Kansas, earning his Ph.D. in 1942. In that same year he joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine. Sailer subsequently held many assignments in the USDA, culminating in 1967, when he became chief of the Insect Identification and Parasite Introduction Branch. His special interests are in the taxonomy of the subfamily heteroptera and the biology of Alaskan biting diptera.
