These records document the efforts of the Development Office to generate private financial support for Cooper-Hewitt Museum exhibitions from 1978 to 1990. Records also consist of files for year-end appeals from 1983 to 1988, which include lists of donors, acknowledgment letters and other correspondence with donors; files for benefits held from 1982 to 1989 to raise money for the Museum, consisting mostly of copies of response forms; files documenting memorial funds established in honor of significant staff members or figures in design; and correspondence files with donors of $500 or less.

Historical Note

Prior to the establishment of the Development Office, fundraising was done by a variety of Cooper-Hewitt Museum staff including curators, administrators, and the director.
