A small amount of material was created by Carl W. Mitman, Chairman of the Smithsonian War Committee.

Historical Note

John Enos Graf was Associate Director of the United States National Museum (USNM) from 1931 to 1945. During the World War II era, Graf served as a member of the Committee on Conservation of Cultural Resources. Established in March 1941, the Committee was given responsibility for preparing plans for the protection of materials of cultural, scientific, or historical importance in the possession of agencies of the federal government. In 1941, Graf conducted a survey of significant Smithsonian collections to be evacuated in case of war.
