Summary: | This record unit primarily documents the tenure of Lloyd Herman, Director of the Gallery, but also contains the records of Scott, Davis, and Taylor, directors of the National Collection of Fine Arts. The records pertain to temporary exhibitions as well as the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery. Prior to 1973 the records illustrate the establishment of the collections as well as the restoration of the Renwick. Exhibitions represented are "Woodenworks: Furniture Objects by Five Contemporary Craftsmen," 1972-1975; "Shaker: Furniture and Objects from the Faith and Edward Deming Andrews Collections Commemorating the Bicentenary of the American Shakers," 1972-1975; and "American Pieced Quilts," 1973-1975. Also included are general office files, which include incoming and outgoing correspondence, exhibition schedules, newspaper clippings, photographs, and publications. Meetings and reports files and special events files are included. |
Descriptive Entry
This record unit primarily documents the tenure of Lloyd Herman, Director of the Renwick Gallery, but also contains the records of David W. Scott, Robert Tyler Davis, and Joshua C. Taylor, directors of the National Collection of Fine Arts (NCFA). The records pertain to temporary exhibitions as well as the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery. Prior to 1973 the records illustrate the establishment of the collections as well as the restoration of the Renwick. Exhibitions represented include Woodenworks, 1972-1975, Shaker, 1972-1975, and American Pieced Quilts, 1973-1975. Also included are incoming and outgoing correspondence, exhibition schedules, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, meetings and reports files, and special events files.
