Historical Note
For an administrative history of the Curatorial Department, see Record Unit 460, the records of its predecessor, the Department of Painting and Sculpture, which existed 1984-1989. In 1989 the Departments of Painting and Sculpture and of Graphic Arts were combined to form the Curatorial Department. Virginia H. Mecklenberg became Curator-in-Charge, Painting and Sculpture, in 1987 and Chief Curator in 1990.
Descriptive Entry
These records consist of correspondence and memoranda documenting the activities of the Curatorial Department and its predecessors. Included are general correspondence; correspondence with artists, dealers, and institutions; and the files of Harry Rand concerning his research and curation of The Art of Paul Manship.
