Historical Note
John H. Falk joined the staff of the Chesapeake Bay Center for Environmental Studies (CBCES) in 1974 as Education Coordinator. In 1975 he was appointed Associate Director for Education Programs. Educational programs at CBCES included research on the design and implementation of outdoor-centered learning experiences, science education field trips for school groups, the development of public programs emphasizing environmental education, and the dissemination of research findings for use in planning and legislation affecting the Chesapeake Bay. Falk's position was abolished in 1983 after the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center was established.
Descriptive Entry
These records document educational programs at the CBCES under Associate Director John H. Falk. They consist of correspondence, memoranda, reports, and printed materials concerning CBCES educational programs, especially the Summer Ecology Program and the Work/Learn Program in Environmental Studies; the dissemination of environmental information, particularly the publication of the Rhode River Review; office administration; relations with Smithsonian bureaus and offices; and Falk's educational research. Photographs of CBCES staff are found in the records.
