Abstract

This field book is comprised of lists of Allen's botanical collecting efforts from Panama and Costa Rica. Entries are dated December 12, 1936 through December 2, 1941 and represent specimen no. 1-2892. Dated entries begin at Rio La Maestra in Panama Province and end in the vicinity of Bejuco, Panama, also located in Panama Province. Numerous entries are also from localities in Chiriquií province. Elevation is typically noted with locality name. Plants are typically identified by either scientific and common name. Some entries also contain narrative description of locality and physical description of specimen particularly color of flowers or fruits. The item also includes an explanatory note regarding duplicate specimen no. and his collaboration with another botanist. Allen writes, "Any Allen collection in the flora of Panama prior to October, 1936 is in reality a Hunter & Allen series number."
