Abstract

These materials are part of a collection of records documenting the joint expedition made by the Freer Gallery of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, from February 20, 1923 to August 6, 1927, and also the Freer Gallery of Art sponsored expedition from November 16, 1929 to April 11, 1934. Both expeditions were led by Carl Whiting Bishop, Associate Curator, 1929-1934, and were designed to create a Chinese government-approved cooperation between the Chinese and American scientific and archeological communities. The present materials, separated and enclosed in five folders for reasons of preservation, consist in a manuscript catalogue of acquisitions acquired by the Freer Gallery Expedition to Peking (Beijing) from 1923 to 1925. The catalogue includes an unpublished typescript with mounted photographs. On the cover a label is inscribed as "Class 060" and "Number F87".
