Abstract

The correspondence and records relate to the 1897-1898 Louisiana oyster survey. Includes sheet containing diatom count; notes and statistics on specific localities; analysis of Louisiana House Bill Number 112 concerning the oyster industry; views of an oysterman on the industry, dated February 5, 1898 and correspondence concerning the results of the survey, 1898. Papers include diatom counts; summaries of interviews with local inhabitants about the oyster industry and locations of oyster beds since 1882; letters summarizing findings. Locations visited in Louisiana include the vicinity of Threemile Bayou, Isle au Pitre, and Saint Bernard.
