Abstract

Notebook labeled "Record of Density and Temperature of Water" containing hydrographic data and remarks concerning the Louisiana oyster beds, January-March 1897 by staff of the United States Bureau of Fisheries. First half of the notebook records data including date, time, surface and bottom densities and temperatures and tide gauge. Second half is made up of notes about locations visited and describing the observed conditions and health of existing oyster beds. Includes references to conversations with local inhabitants about changes in the oyster bed populations. Locations in Louisiana include in the vicinity of Grand Pass, Jack Williams Bayou, Karako Bay, Half Moon Island, and Kerchimbo Bay.
