Abstract

Robert P. Higgins, born in 1932, is an invertebrate zoologist who held various positions at the Smithsonian Institution and the National Museum of Natural History, 1968-1996. The Smithsonian Institution Archives house field notes that document his collecting trips around the world. This field book includes a printed list of codes and abbreviations for supplies, methods for collecting samples and species names. The notes are filled in pencil on printed forms. They cover the Gulf of Thailand, the Andaman Sea, the Indian Ocean and South China Sea. They give dates from March 26 to April 15, 1988. The notes show locality, coordinates, habitat, gear, method of process, name of collector and remarks on species.
