PrintThis field book is a typed transcript of an original field book. It includes 77 leaves (among which an additional leaf of original notes was inserted, numbered "#8-30" and dated "July 13, 1930"). The original field book is part of a collection of Waldo L. Schmitt papers. Schmitt was a carcinologist. During the summers of 1924 and 1925, Schmitt was at the Carnegie Institution's Marine Laboratory at Tortugas, Florida, surveying the crustacean fauna of the area, identifying crustaceans found in the stomachs of fishes, and taking underwater photographs. The original field notes, dated from June 7 to August 21, 1924, focus on colors of collected specimens of crustaceans. They show for each specimen the name of the species, the location and date, followed by a description of observed colors, with some drawings in ink, which are mentioned but not reproduced in this transcript.
