Abstract

This field book contains the field notes of Brian Harold Mason, taken in various New Zealand areas during the year 1954. Brian Harold Mason (1917-2009) was the Curator in the Meteorites Division, Department of Mineral Sciences of the National Museum of Natural History. Mason's research focused on the mineralogy and petrology of meteorites and cosmochemistry. The notes, in pencil, start with "Notes on schist zone criteria (after Wellman et al.)". More field notes, focusing on schist and gneiss, follow on specimens from various sites of the West Coast of New Zealand. At end are "Notes on places to see", and lists of photos. Inside back cover is a recipe for dried vegetables.
