Abstract

This field book is the fifth small notebook of a set of five, containing the field notes of Brian Harold Mason, taken in various New Zealand areas during the years 1957-1958. Brian Harold Mason (1917-2009) was the Curator in the Meteorites Division, Department of Mineral Sciences of the National Museum of Natural History. Mason's research focused on the mineralogy and petrology of meteorites and cosmochemistry. This field book, number 5, concerns research conducted in the Haast valley. The notes, in ink, include details on the minerals found on site, with coordinates. They are numbered 744-785, and dated March 7-11, with no mention of year but probably from 1958, considering the continuous numbering of field books and the date of the preceding one (see MODSI9331).
