Abstract

This field book is the fourth small notebook of a set of five, containing the field notes of Brian Harold Mason, taken in various New Zealand areas during the years 1957-1958. Brian Harold Mason (1917-2009) was the Curator in the Meteorites Division, Department of Mineral Sciences of the National Museum of Natural History. Mason's research focused on the mineralogy and petrology of meteorites and cosmochemistry. This field book, number 4, concerns research conducted in the areas of the Haast, Waiatoto and Jackson rivers. The notes, in ink, include details on the minerals found on each site, with coordinates. They are numbered 711-743, 786-793, and dated February 24-March 16, 1958. At the end of the book are notes for a lecture on two pages, then a list of chemical molecules and of minerals in pencil on one page, followed by notes, charts and diagrams on minerals and their chemical composition.
