Abstract

This field book is the first small notebook of a set of five, containing the field notes of Brian Harold Mason, taken in various New Zealand areas during the years 1957-1958. Brian Harold Mason (1917-2009) was the Curator in the Meteorites Division, Department of Mineral Sciences of the National Museum of Natural History. Mason's research focused on the mineralogy and petrology of meteorites and cosmochemistry. This field book no. 1 relates to research conducted in West Otago, New Zealand. The notes, in ink, include details on collected samples, including their composition and their coordinates. Each finding is numbered continuously from in the notebooks, this one covering numbers 500 to 648. The dates range from December 29, 1957 to January 4, 1958.
