Abstract

Field book of banding forms that are survey records on migratory birds specimens collected in Egypt for the Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey. From the finding aid (SIA RU000435): "The Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey (PMS), a survey of migratory birds, their ectoparasites and the viruses they carry, was conducted in the eastern Mediterranean from 1966 to 1971. The primary PMS operation site was in northern Egypt. Surveys were also conducted in Cyprus and Israel. The PMS involved scientists of the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Naval Medical Research Unit, and Yale University, and was funded by the Army Research Office, the Smithsonian Foreign Currency Program, and the Smithsonian Research Foundation. George E. Watson, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, and Curator, Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator". Surveys were also conducted in Uganda. The banding forms, ten per leaf, are dated from April 15 to May 9, 1971. They are numbered 060-03834 to 060-03866. They show the band number, the name of the bird species, the date and locality of capture and release, and data on sex, age, fat, wing, weight, parasites and molt, with additional remarks. The majority of the forms concern the species Coturnix coturnix (common quail) and Otus scops (Eurasian Scops owl).
