Nest record cards: Kineo.

Abstract

This is a set of 15 card files, filled on both sides, dated only by month, day and time. The range of dates is inferred from the label on the box containing all the sets of cards. However, all the cards show a "Nest # - Yr" starting with "90", which might indicate the year 1990 for this set. They contain notes and measurements of researchers recording ornithological data for the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. The field research apparently took place in the area of Kineo, New Hampshire, since the label separating this set of cards from the others in the collection is labeled "Kineo" and the previous item in the box showed research conducted in New Hampshire (see item record MODSI9175). No observer's name was noted. The measurements include the weight ("WT"), wing (WNG) and tarsus ("TAR") length of observed birds, as well as each nest's height and the height of the plant on which the nest was positioned. The researcher(s) noted the name of the plot and its grid coordinates for each card, as well as notes on beach bird's behavior.
