This is a set of 59 card files with notes of researchers recording ornithological data for the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. The field research took place in Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (HBEF), located in New Hampshire. HBEF is operated by the USDA Forest Service since 1955, and is a member of the National Science Foundation's Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) since 1988. Only a few cards mention the name of an observer (for example: E. M. Wiener, J. D. S., T. W. Sherry, J. R. Hill). Although the label on the box containing the cards shows dates as a range (1985-2000), some cards have an earlier date, some are not dated, and not all cards cover inclusive dates: the earliest is dated 1970, then the cards cover the years 1975, 1978-1979, 1981-1985, 1987-1988. The cards record miscellaneous field notes on nests and banding. They concern black-throated blue warblers and blue warblers, and they provide plot locations, band colors and ID codes, forest types and plant species, plants and nests heights, nest sizes and the position of each nest on plants. Some cards also provide charts with wings measurements and the weight ("WT") and tarsus length ("TAR") of observed birds. Most cards are titled "Nest Records Cards", some are titled "North American Nest-Record card Program". This set of cards is the first among several other sets contained in a box and separated by labeled divisors. This first set had no labeled divisor, but its cards were titled as nest records, as mentioned above.
