Abstract

The drawings and notes document William Henry Holmes' field work in Palenque, Mexico, during 1895, while working for the Field Museum in Chicago. The images detail layouts of Mayan structures, structural details, oblique views of terrain and Mayan ruins. Many of the drawings contain detailed annotations with measurements. Field notes are headed with location and describe observations of terrain and Mayan ruins including materials and construction, sculptures, and route traveled. Some notes specify which structure e.g. Temple of the Sun, west building, Temple of the Cerro, palace,. Also includes hand drawn maps and photographs.
