Abstract

The record book labeled "Color Notes on Hawaiian Fishes" records information about fish observed and collected in Oahu, June 6 - August 8, 1901. Sources and locations vary. Data recorded includes number, species, length, where taken, whether alive or how long dead, and description of coloring. Specimen sources include markets, waterways, towns, and fishermen. Physical descriptions record color for each part of the fish, and are often extensive, sometimes half to a full page in length. There are notes changes in specimen appearance after being preserved. Locations include Honolulu Market, Kaneohe Creek [stream], Waikiki Beach, Moanalua. Includes sketches with notes. Most taken from Honolulu market. No author given. Includes an index of species.
