Abstract

The typed journal documents field work of Paul Bartsch at the Islands bordering the Rim of the Caribbean to study the geology and fresh water mollusks, conducted under the grant of the Walter Rathbone Bacon Traveling Scholarship, 1927. There is a letter to Bartsch from D. M. Cochran. The entries are dated (June 12 - September 3, 1927) and describe daily work, travel details, weather, habitat, specimen collecting, and observations of birds and other wildlife. Black and white photographs are interleaved. Images show terrain, harbors, vegetation, the vessel "Guillermito", crew members and colleagues. Sheets of images are often headed with island name and captions describe subject matter.
