Abstract

The notes and black and white photographs document field work of Paul Bartsch at the Islands bordering the Rim of the Caribbean to study the geology and fresh water mollusks, conducted under the grant of the Walter Rathbone Bacon Traveling Scholarship, 1927. Some photographs have captions. These are often short and describe location or subject matter. Includes a publication "the Asphalt Lake of Trinidad and Venezuela" by Henry D. Baker. The typed field entries are interleaved with photographs of local inhabitants, terrain, vegetation, as-sea observations of wildlife (e.g. porpoises). Includes panorama photographs of islands, with island name recorded on the verso. Entries are dated and describe daily work, travel details, weather, habitat, and observations of birds and other wildlife.
