PrintThe volume documents the field work of Paul Bartsch during the Albatross Philippine Expedition, for the dates: October 16- 1907 to January 19, 1908. Entries are dated and narrative in structure, sometimes containing tables of data. They describe observations of wildlife and are often organized by time of day. These include notes about abundance, location, and characteristics. There are also descriptions of ship movements, observations of coastline, specimens collected, work completed, and daily activities. There are notes in the margins highlighting topics in the entries relating to birds, plankton and other fauna or to location. Contains a hand drawn map with notations and barometric and thermometric readings. Also includes a publication "A visit to Midway Island" from the Auk (1922) and "A list of birds collected by Dr. Paul Bartsch in the Philippine Islands, Borneo, Guam and Midway Island, with descriptions of three new forms" published by the U.S. National Museum (1909). Locations include but are not limited to the Philippines.
