Abstract

The volume contains the collecting notes of Grace E. Pickford, recorded during her field work in South Africa while she was a traveling scholar with Newnham College in South Africa. Entries cover October 22, 1925 to March 18, 1926, and vary in content and structure. Some are dated, and list location information, description of collecting site (e.g. landmarks), habitat, specimen type, and additional remarks regarding specimen characteristics. Other entries are narrative in structure, headed with location, and contain observations of fauna and habitat including composition of soil and characteristics of specimens collected. Sometimes contains notes about how specimens were preserved. This field book documents accession #318512 at Department of Invertebrate Zoology, National Museum of Natural History. Contains loose inserts of notes.
