Abstract

The field book documents the field work of Richard Rathbun along the Pedro II Railroad in Brazil while working as a geologist on the Geological Commission of Brazil, December 10, 1876 to January 16, 1877. Entries are dated and narrative in structure. They describe work from the time he left Rio de Janeiro December 10, 1876. Entries contain travel details including routes, work completed, geological observations of terrain including sketches, specimens collected, shells observed in inland waters. Rathburn writes from both ends of the volume. At the end is a dated list of expenses.
