Abstract

The field book documents the field work of Richard Rathbun along the Bahia railroad in Brazil while working as a geologist on the Geological Commission of Brazil, February 1 - March 7, 1876. Entries are dated and narrative in structure. They describe daily activities, routes traveled, colleagues with whom he worked, terrain and geological characteristics seen enroute, observations and abundance of invertebrates observed (including crabs), specimens collected. Also lists the local names of wildlife. It appears that collecting occurred in fresh and salt water. Includes two plant specimens.
