Abstract

The field book covers the work of Donald F. MacDonald in the Canal Zone for the Culebra Cut, February 8 - April 23, 1911. The volume begins with a key delineating the meanings of colors used in map notations. Colors indicate geological characteristics. Entries are dated and headed with location. They contain portions of printed maps with notations and elevations affixed to the volume, followed by a variety of content: narrative style entries, numbered lists that include geological observations and remarks, colored drawings with measurements and notes. Also includes descriptions of photographs taken; there is a particularly detailed list of photograph descriptions at the end of the volume for April 23, 1911.
