Abstract

Over 150 black and white photographs pertaining to Stejneger's extensive study of the fur seals of the North Pacific-Bering Sea. These photographs are mostly unidentified and undated. Many of these photographs, however, are duplicates of photographs identified in other folders within the collection. Also included are maps. Depicted in these photographs are monuments, geographic features, fur seals, local people and foreign sealers, and villages. Locations depicted include Bering Island / Ostrov Beringa and Copper Island / Ostrov Mednyy. It is possible that a majority of the photographs, however, are of locations on Bering Island and Copper Island, and possibly some on Robben Island / Tyuleniy, Ostrov and Kamchatka. Some photographs were taken by H. W. Domes. Some or all of these photographs may be published.
