Abstract

The hand drawn illustrations of Galaxia, Catostomus, Leuciseus, Mylachilus, Zanelus, Ephippus, Holocanthus, Amphacanthus, Acanthurus and Chaetodon fish were drawn from Joseph Drayton and John Richard from fish that were observed or collected during the United States Exploring Expedition, 1838-1842. One sketch appears to have been created during the expedition, has little detail but extensive notes. Most drawings are highly detailed. They include species name, location, some have date, creator, and multiple assigned numbers. Locations noted include Oahu, Fiji, and Tuamotu Islands. Includes a list stating "drawings of fishes of which there are not specimens."
