Abstract

The notebook includes notes documenting time at sea January 1, 1872, from Unalaska, with William Healey Dall as the activing assistant undercaptain(?) on the schooner Humboldt. Entries list weather, barometric pressure, temperature, wind, bearings (in magnetic), followed by narrative descriptions of daily conditions. These include the presence and effect of ice on ability to travel. Relate to observations taken of Alaska coast. At the end of the volume is an index that lists subject and page number, relating to Hydrography, meteorology, tides, volcanos, and telemeter observations.
