Abstract

The illustrations were created by Joseph Drayton and are of Eleotris, Gobius, Sicyoperus and other unidentified fishes observed or collected during the United States Exploring Expedition, 1838-1842. Illustrations are a mix of early sketches and detailed drawings; they include species name, location, assigned numbers, some including area details, and notes about the subject matter. Locations noted include Oahu, Tahiti, Maui, New Zealand, Hilo, Fiji, and general areas in the Hawaiian Islands.
