Abstract

The 13 hand drawn and colored drawings of Clupoid fish were created by Joseph Drayton and John Richard from fish observed or collected during the United States Exploring Expedition, 1838-1842. Most images are highly detailed, and include notes about physical appearances, parts of the fish, and include dates and locations. Some appear to be early sketches, with additional notes for later drafts. Locations noted include Callao, Hawaiian islands, and Peru.
